It’s that time of year again where we begin to promise to change our lifestyles; lose weight, get healthier and become fitter. Ring any bells?
Did you succeed with your goals last year? If you did then, congratulations and keep up the good work.
However, if like many others you ended up giving in to old habits, here are a few tips to point you in the right direction.
The first thing to do is to make an action plan for yourself. Write down your personal, realistic goals for this year, i.e., an achievable goal might be to lose 21lbs or two dress sizes in three months.
Don’t start the year without a plan. You wouldn’t start a journey without a map or a destination nor should you start a new regime without having a clear goal and an idea of how you are going to get there.
Our lifestyles can be complex and time-consuming, full of seemingly insurmountable barriers.
A common example of that is: “I don’t have enough time to achieve my weight loss goals.”
As we have to eat every day to provide fuel for our bodies, over 70% of our current weight is a direct result of our diet. Diet can therefore have the biggest impact on how we look and feel.
Physical activity is very important in achieving weight loss goals and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. However, by incorporating a healthy diet into our daily routine, we can make our weight loss goals more achievable and successful in the long-term. If we improve our food choices, we can improve our health.
Tips for success:
1. PLAN: Create an end goal then you can start to build a path/plan a route to your goal and your ultimate success!
2. DIET: A balanced breakfast is essential for kick starting the metabolism.
3. GET ACTIVE: Physical activity is important. Start simple, increase the amount of time you walk around. Make it fun with friends or family. Don’t rely on others, if your friends can’t go, don’t use this as an excuse. You and your new Christmas iPod can have a good time too.
