Often, companies still have to run their day-to-day business affairs whilst relocating – it can be like having two full-time jobs instead of one. There are, however, a number of steps firms can take to make any transaction as smooth as possible.
We are not saying our top ten office move tips guarantee there will be no stress, but there should be a lot less if you follow some or all of them.
1. Set a date and stick to it. A variety of factors can mean you may consider changing the day on which you move. Don’t; agree when it is going to be and make sure it happens.2. Prepare a plan at least three months before you move. This should involve listing key tasks three months ahead of the move, one month before and on the day of the move itself.
3. Stay on track. Hold regular meetings to check you’re where you should be – weekly to begin with and then daily as you get nearer the day.
4. Have a clear-out day. Moving is an opportunity to shed unwanted junk – clear out as much as you can from cellar to loft and all points in between.
5. Branding and re-branding. Often overlooked, but signage and stationery are a vital part of business life – allocate this task to someone with an eye for detail.
6. Correspond with everyone. Communication is key to any move. Make sure everyone who needs to know is aware of every detail. Write to clients and contacts and make sure email signatures are up to date.
7. A utility player. Make a key task advising existing utility providers of the move and putting in place arrangements with the new ones -remember if you choose a serviced office no need to make new arrangements, all done for you!
8. Market your move. Remember to make the most of it – it’s an ideal time to put yourself at the forefront of customers’ minds and sends out a positive message that your business is heading in the right direction.
