It has been a difficult time in business and many are still suffering the effects of high bank charges and increased interest charges as banks seek to recover their position.
A group of former bankers have created a successful company by offering businesses advice from a unique perspective as independent banking consultants
Ian Priest, a director of the firm Independent Banking Consultants (IBC) regularly helps companies access finance, move banks, better manage their banking relationships and mitigate business risk.
IBC are independent banking and business finance specialists, and Ian says their collective experience – with that element of independence – gives them a distinct ability to help companies who might struggle with financial issues.
Ian, who has 31 years’ banking experience accumulated before he joined IBC, said: “We approach raising finance from a different perspective, in that we go in as though we were the bank. We write a credit paper that the bank manager should be writing.”
He says that the necessary experience the banking sector should have is often lacking and relationships are not always what they should be.
“Lots of people in banking are under pressure and cannot devote the time to writing credit papers. What we do is take difficult and complex business situations, do our research, write a credit paper as though we were the banker, and then send it to the banks to see if they have the appetite for it.”
Ian says a document is produced that makes it easy for the bank manager to make a decision and provides businesses trying to raise finance with a pragmatic solution – taking the strain away from them too.
